My sister, bless her heart, did not know the difference between kale and mustard greens. So when my youngest sister and I noticed she was prepping mustard greens to make “kale chips,” we kindly notified her of the error. This left us with a pound of mustard greens she didn’t want. And, if you’ve ever had mustard greens, you know they taste very bitter. However, I managed to sneak some into this delicious green smoothie made with fresh oranges and frozen pears, and you can’t even tell! This smoothie is packed with nutrients and makes a perfect breakfast or afternoon snack!
So…let us begin!
You will need:
- 2-3 fresh oranges
- 1 frozen pear
- 1/2 cup to 1 small handful fresh cilantro
- 5 kale leaves
- 1 large handful mustard greens
- 4 cups water
- quarter of a lemon wedge
- 1 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- optional: small spoon of spirulina
Place all the ingredients except the kale and mustard greens into your high powered blender. As the mixture blends, feed the kale and mustard greens in one at a time, so they will fully mix in your smoothie. If you think your smoothie is too thick, add more water.
Pour out the amazing green smoothie mixture into a large mug, top with fresh or frozen blueberries (or anything else you want) and drink up!
Yum!
