Vegan Apple Crumble – Gluten Free

IMG_5812

Just in time for the holidays! As promised, a vegan holiday dessert! This recipe is really simple to make, and there are a lot of variations to it. Apple crumble can be very forgiving on the type of flour you use, you if you have a nut allergy, switch up the flour to buckwheat or chickpea flour. And of course, regular flour will work the same. You also can completely omit the oats and use all flour ingredients instead.

This recipe is really simple to make as well. Only about 20 minutes prep time total (mainly peeling and slicing apples), and 25-30 minutes bake time. So not even an hour of prep time for an amazing, healthy, great tasting recipe!

This dessert can also be served with ice cream, whipped cream or just drizzled with coconut milk like I did.

So without further ado…let us begin!

For the apple mixture you will need:

  • Five apples (I used green, but you can use any variety)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (about the juice of 1 lemon)
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

For the crumble mixture you will need:

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup almond meal or almond flour (If you want to make your own, just blend 1 cup almonds in your high powered blender)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or cinammon
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Step 2

For the crumble, you want to use a fork to first mix the flour, oats, sugar, baking powder and cinnamon/pumpkin pie spice together in a large bowl, then add in the maple syrup and coconut oil.

If you want your crumble to be sweeter, add 1 more tablespoon of maple syrup. If you want a richer, more moist crumble, add 1 more tbsp of coconut oil.

Next, put in the oven! Cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the top starts browning. Once it is cooked, turn the oven off and let the crumble cool, about 15 minutes

And you are done! Serve with a side of vegan ice cream, vegan coconut cream whip, or anything else you want to top your dessert with!

Apple crumble can be stored up to a week in the fridge. You can also eat it hot or cold, that’s the beauty of this dessert!
