Cranberry Orange Sauce

IMG_5894

I never made cranberry sauce from scratch until this past Thanksgiving. Though I had to do two batches in order to perfect the recipe, the second one came out amazing, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone! This recipe is so simple, and there is really barely any work involved! This cranberry sauce is so good that you can eat it as a snack later. The orange juice and zest gives it such an amazing flavor. I know Thanksgiving is over for my American audience, but…there are still several holidays coming up! Perfect time to use this recipe!

So…let us begin!

You will need:

  • 1 bag fresh cranberries (this amounts to 12 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup orange juice (juice of about 1 to 2 oranges)
  • 1 1/2 tsp grated orange zest
  • 1/2 cup sugar or agave, or…
    • 1/2 – 3/4 cup honey (I’ve made with honey and it came out amazing!)

Step 1:

First you want to wash the cranberries and pick out any of the ones that aren’t good. Once you have done that, put in a medium sized pot.

Step 2:

Add the orange juice, zest and sugar. Mix well, then turn the heat on medium high, and cover. Bring the cranberries to a boil, then turn down the heat to simmer. Keep cooking for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently. You will know when the sauce is done when the berries begin to pop, and the sauce begins to thicken. Taste the mixture as well, and add more sweetener or orange zest if you like.

Once the sauce is thick, remove from heat and let it cool. The sauce will thicken even more as it cools down.

And that’s it! Serve with your holiday meal, and watch everyone enjoy it, while complimenting you as they do so!

Enjoy!
