Banana Coconut Lemon Ginger Smoothie

FullSizeRender (1)

Banana, lemon, coconut milk and ginger aren’t necessarily the first things that come to your mind when you think “Hmm, what’s a great smoothie combination?” But, surprisingly (or not so surprising) enough, this is a really great tasting smoothie and combo! What’s more, this is a great alkaline smoothie that can help reduce inflammation, as it contains 3 of the top natural inflammatory ingredients: lemon, ginger and turmeric. Not to mention the vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and antioxidant properties that you get from the coconut milk, as well as your omega 3s and 6 with the hemp seeds!

If you can’t use coconut milk, you can sub out for nut milk, and then add a small bit of coconut milk or cream in its place. And if you don’t know where to get coconut milk or want to try using your own, click on this link to see my recipe on how to make your own coconut milk!

So, are you convinced to try it yet? You will be pleasantly surprised with all the flavor combinations in your mouth, it really is a treat!

So without further ado…let us begin!

You will need:

  • 3 to 4 cups coconut milk or
    • 3 to 4 cups nut milk (and if you use nut milk then you also need:)
      • 1/2 cup coconut milk or coconut cream
  • 4 to 5 frozen bananas
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut
  • 4 frozen lemon ice cubes (this is done by blending whole lemons in a high powered blender, then freezing them in an ice cube tray) If you don’t want to do this, then use:
    • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp maca
  • 1/2 inch piece of fresh turmeric
  • optional: coconut oil, coconut cream or coconut butter for an extra creamy, coconut consistency and taste!

Step 1:

Put all the ingredients into your high powered blender. Blend on high until everything is mixed together and you have a nice, creamy consistency. Pour into a large glass, your smoothie bottle or just drink it out of the blender!

Tip: If you are using fresh ginger and turmeric, make sure they are full blended before drinking. You don’t want to get an unexpected bite of ginger or turmeric in your smoothie!
