Although they are not raw, kale chips are THE BEST. However, buying them in the store can cost a considerable amount, setting you back at least $8 bucks or more. Guys…there is NO REASON to buy kale chips at the store! They are soooo easy to make at home, plus you know exactly what is going in them! One bunch of organic kale can cost anywhere from $1.50 to $2.50, depending on where you get it. Couple that with nutritional yeast, about $.50 cents worth and coconut oil, also about $.50 cents worth, plus maybe $.05 cents worth of paprika, and you have a snack for under 4 bucks! But enough about money, let us begin!
For the kale and kale chip mix, you will need:
– 1 bunch of organic kale
– 2 tbsp. coconut oil
– 3 to 4 tbsp. nutritional yeast
– 1 tsp. paprika
– salt and pepper to taste
Wash the kale, then break up the leaves into small, bite sized pieces. You can choose to either remove the stems or keep them in. I personally don’t like to waste anything, so I always leave the stems in, plus it gives a great crunchy taste!
After the kale is washed and broken up, add the 2 tbsp. of coconut oil, the nutritional yeast and the rest of our condiments. With your hands, “massage” the mix into the kale, making sure every leaf and stem is satirized with the mixture:
Then, heat the oven to about 350 F. Spray 2 pans with oil or wipe with a bit of coconut oil to make sure the leaves don’t sick. Distribute evenly on the trays, and put in oven to bake, about 5 minutes. Careful that they don’t burn!
Once the chips are baked and crisp, remove from the trays, top with a bit more nutritional yeast and paprika, then eat!
They taste soooo good, better than the store ones because there are no preservatives and they don’t have that “storage/shelf” taste.
You can literally eat the entire thing yourself, it is that good!
